IΩANNA is honoured to have her artwork, Logos Waking Up, awarded the People’s Choice Award and Third Prize at the From Rubble to Resistance exhibition, curated by Zoë Slee at the Northern Centre for Contemporary Art in Darwin (NCCA).
Judges, Alana Holmberg, Matthew van Roden and Tierney White made the following statement: “IOANNA has created a contemporary response to the theme, working with, and presenting within, modern technologies to explore a dystopian future. Unique and well-executed, Logos Waking Up playfully invokes a curiosity in viewers of all ages.
The artist's physical sculpture, Logos - also present as the viewer's companion in a virtual reality environment - invites the viewer to a possible local eventuation, a future of amalgamated artscapes reclaimed by the natural world. The work skilfully weaves through the virtual and the actual, moving material between both thresholds whilst playfully collaborating with Al.
Logos is a reminder that despite our despondency, there are many possible future worlds, and they are tied to the decisions we make now. The work is a bold and innovative embrace of the intersection of art and technology, and the judging panel were impressed with how it has engaged a new generation of art lovers.”
